Uncomfortable Immersion

Uncomfortable Immersion is a grief support toolkit for bereaved adolescents. The toolkit centres on a guide book that helps young people build personal ritual objects and process loss at their own pace. A memorial pendant is shaped from the signature of a loved one, 3D printed in PLA and cast in sterling silver. A silk scarf is printed with a letter from the deceased in thermochromic ink, which becomes transparent above 27 degrees Celsius, so the words appear through touch. Human-centred design methods guided the work, which aims to offer support long after a funeral.

X-Space

X-Space is a fire escape window designed for residential rooms where the passageway may be blocked during a fire. The design is a redesign of the window frame with a rotational structure holder made of five parts that interact by mechanical principles. Turning the handle 180 degrees anticlockwise triggers the alarm and notifies firefighters. Opening the window then forms a space outside the wall. A fire resisting shutter hidden in the holder axis is pulled out to isolate fire and smoke while people wait for rescue.

FOODres

Foodres AI Printer is a desktop 3D printer that turns food scraps and organic waste into functional crafts. The printer and its mobile application use artificial intelligence and a phone camera to identify materials and match them to printable recipes. Users drop in food waste, then select forms and sizes to print items such as cup holders, coasters and decorative objects. A translucent shell makes the printing process visible, and only two openings and a minimal control panel are provided. The design supports everyday food saving and creative reuse at home.

Pocket Spaces

Pocket Spaces is a social intervention guide for high density public housing estates. The design turns narrow corridors and stairwells into shared social spaces. A 12-page portable manual printed on recycled paper leads residents step by step, from spotting neglected areas to building simple modular units. Assembly uses wood collected from community waste, cable ties and simple clamps, so elderly residents and children can complete a unit in 30 minutes without special tools. Pocket Spaces supports spatial autonomy and neighborly bonds in communities facing redevelopment.
